Gossip: Inter 'to offer £200m for Pogba', PSG to sign De Gea on a free
Manchester United are in the news again, as it appears both David de Gea and Paul Pogba could be leaving the club.
First, De Gea. Having watched the performance in front of him against Crystal Palace on Saturday, there seems little chance United are going to persuade him to stay with the promise of titles and trophies. Instead, it seems likeliest that he will look at his Wikipedia page, scroll down to Honours, and decide to run down his contract.
That’s what the Mail on Sunday believe, too. They think that with the 28 year old having less than a year left on his current deal, he will be happy to run it down, sign a pre-contract agreement with Paris Saint-Germain and leave in the summer.
While that move would guarantee a Ligue Un trophy every season, there are problems with the story. The first is that PSG have Financial Fair Play worries already, and have Gianluigi Buffon in goal, with French international Alphone Areola as a second option, so spending such a huge amount may not be viable. And secondly, United have the option to extend De Gea’s contract by another 12 months, which would at least they can sell him to raise some funds in the summer.
He’s not the only player who could be off, either. The Sunday Mirror believe that Paul Pogba is wanted by Inter Milan as they start to rival Juventus at the top of Serie A.
Despite Pogba’s poor performances for his club, Ed Woodward is reluctant to sell, meaning a special offer will be required if it is to convince the executive to sell his prime marketing asset. To that end, Inter will offer two players, plus cash, in a deal worth around £200 million.
The first player mentioned is 23-year-old central defender Milan Skriniar. He has long been linked with United, and Jose Mourinho wants to reinforce his defence having had Chris Smalling in his squad. Another to be offered is Ivan Perisic, who has fallen out of favour with the Italian side this season, and has been linked to United for the past two summers, with Woodward unwilling to meet the club’s valuation.
Whether Pogba would wish to move to Inter when he has his sights set on either a return to Juventus or to Barcelona is another matter.
